What Is Travertine?

Travertine is a natural stone that is created through the process of minerals dissolving and being moved by natural springs.  Technically travertine is a form of limestone that is in the process of evolving into marble.  Once it is moved it raises above ground level and forms quarries.  These quarries are then cut into blocks.  Air pockets formed by carbon dioxide are trapped during the formation of travertine.  These lead the a reach unique visual depth and aesthetic not found on other tiles.  Historically travertine has been a part of many great archetectual developments.  It was used in Paris and by Romans in the creation of many of their historic landmarks including the colosseum.
